Strategies for Developing Awareness and Expanding Understanding

When our mind is in harmony and balance, the body and spirit follow. The mind is responsible for our thoughts, feelings, behaviors physical health and our overall experiences in life- good or bad.

Overtime, negative thought patterns and feelings break down our sense of happiness, peace and connectivity to ourselves and our world. Trauma, grief, stress and anxiety can leave a person feeling stuck and unable to move past their negativity. These negative thoughts and feelings left untreated may begin depleting the body of its vitality and health leading to disease.

Dr. Melissa Fenton recognizes how health must begin with the mind down. Over the years she has created a loving and healing place where our clients can come to experience their optimal mental and emotional health.

Each of our mental health counselors are educated and trained in the most clinically effective integrative psychotherapies today so that our clients can achieve greater mental, emotional, physical and spiritual harmony.

Telemental Health

Telemental health consists of any counseling sessions and additional communication between a therapist and client through HIPPA compliant video-conferencing, phone sessions, email and any other form of communication that is not in person.

Telemental health can be beneficial due to an increased sense of flexibility in scheduling, the ability to select the space of your choosing and being able to provide services to those that may have a difficult time travelling or leaving their residence. If you would like to see if telemental health is the right option for you, please contact our office to set up a consultation.

Couples Counseling

Couples counseling helps you achieve your greatest wellness in your relationship with a partner, spouse, friend, or roommate. Your therapist will provide a comfortable, private, and non-judgmental setting. This enables you to explore your goals and concerns, helping you gain important perspectives and skills to improve your relationship.

Common topics include communication and conflict resolution, problem solving, sexual issues, learning to get needs met in healthy ways, and pre-marriage counseling. Counseling helps you enhance your relationship or perhaps thoughtfully go your separate ways.

Family/Child Counseling

This form of psychotherapy includes all or several of the family members together with a counselor so that the focus is on adopting healthier communication and dynamics among family members. Family counselors focus on the family system as the “client” and work with the all or several of the family members in creating greater understanding and cohesiveness within the parent(s) and child(s).

Family therapy can include:

– Cognitive/behavioral
– Play
– Psychodynamic
– Interpersonal Therapies.

Sessions are for 60 minutes.

Grief/Trauma Counseling

Therapy for Grief

When a person’s grief-related thoughts, behaviors, or feelings are extremely distressing, unrelenting, or incite concern, a qualified mental health professional may be able to help. Therapy is an effective way to learn to cope with the stressors associated with the loss and to manage symptoms with techniques such as relaxation or meditation.

Each experience of grief is unique, complex, and personal, and therapists will tailor treatment to meet the specific needs of each person. For example, a therapist might help the bereaved find different ways to maintain healthy connections with the deceased through memory, reflection, ritual, or dialogue about the deceased and with the deceased.

In addition to individual therapy, group therapy can be helpful for those who find solace in the reciprocal sharing of thoughts and feelings, and recovery results are often rapid in this setting. Similarly, family therapy may be suitable for a family whose members are struggling to adapt to the loss of a family member.

The Process of Recovering From Grief

Everyone grieves in their own way and in their own time. Some people recover from grief and resume normal activities within six months, though they continue to feel moments of sadness. Others may feel better after about a year, and sometimes people continue to grieve for years without seeming to improve or find relief even temporarily.

Grief can be complicated by other conditions, most notably depression, or by the person’s level of dependency on the departed. No one way of grieving is better than any other. Some people are more emotional and dive into their feelings; others are stoic and may seek distraction from dwelling on an unchangeable fact of living.

While many difficult and complicated emotions are associated with the grieving process, experiences of joy, contentment, and humor are not absent during this difficult time. Self-compassion, physical exercise, and strong social support can all contribute to alleviating some of the most challenging aspects of grief.

One of the many challenges associated with grieving the loss of a loved one, whether to death or the dissolution of a relationship, is adjusting to the new reality of living in the absence of the loved one. This often requires developing a new routine, envisioning a new future, and even adopting a new sense of identity.

Individual Counseling

In individual therapy you have the unique opportunity to work with one of our therapists who are specifically trained to understand and support your concerns. The highly personal nature of this exchange between your therapist and you allows for a more in depth focus on the issues you are experiencing and wanting to overcome.

Mind body & Beyond has several counselors from which to choose who specialize in diverse areas of mental health. Individual sessions can be scheduled weekly, biweekly or monthly depending on your needs.

Why we recognize the need for Hypnotherapy to heal your Mind, Body and Spirit?

Through the process of moving beyond our conscious awareness to unlock and interact with the subconscious mind, the part of the mind that habits, emotions and spiritual strength resides, one can effectively treat long-standing psychological, physical and spiritual problems. Physicians and psychologists have observed this healing modality for decades.

We are now offering hypnotherapy for weight loss, pain reduction, regression and instilling positive suggestions for success in work, sports and relationships. Our certified and highly skilled hypnotherapists are trained in the latest hypnotic techniques to enhance our clients’ healing.

Group Counseling

Group therapy involves one or more counselors who lead a group of roughly five to 10 clients. Typically, groups meet for an hour or two each week and run anywhere from 6-8 weeks. Most groups become closed to other members once the group sessions begin. Some people attend individual therapy in addition to groups, while others participate in groups only. Group counseling can be a more economical approach to therapy and remain very effective.

Many groups are designed to target a specific problem, such as depression, obesity, panic disorder, social anxiety, chronic pain or addiction. Other groups focus more generally on improving social skills, helping people deal with a range of issues such as anger, shyness, loneliness, divorce or relationships.

Groups often help those who have experienced loss, whether it be a spouse, a child or sibling.

Mind Body & Beyond will be running Group Therapy Sessions several times per year. Please check our calendar for dates and the description of the groups being offered.

This acronym stands for “Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.” This integrative psychotherapy approach has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma or symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

EMDR is used for individuals who have experienced moderate to severe trauma which remains unresolved. When a traumatic or distressing experience occurs, it may overwhelm normal cognitive and neurological coping mechanisms leaving the memory and associated stimuli unprocessed and stored in an isolated memory network.

The goal of EMDR therapy is to process these distressing memories, reducing their lingering effects and allowing clients to develop more adaptive coping mechanisms.

The therapist assists the client through an 8- step protocol that includes having the client recall distressing images while receiving one of several types of bilateral sensory input including side to side eye movements. This therapy was originally developed to treat adults suffering from PTSD, however, it is also used to treat other conditions of stress, anxiety and grief.

Dis-Ease Exploration & Release

Dis-Ease Exploration & Release

A new process, created as a brain-child of Dr. Julie Dietrich, allows one to delve into their Subconscious to find the original source and reason behind a specific disease or ailment. This process allows one to fully understand what their body is really trying to tell them by communication of a physical issue. By understanding this communication, it allows one to release the subtle energy blocks that are causing havoc in your body.

This revolutionary new process has the capability of finding and removing the origin of dis-ease. These subtle energy blocks are typically rooted in faulty thought patterns, suppressed emotion over time, and/or prolonged negative life affirmations.

Dr. Dietrich’s extensive training in Transpersonal Psychology, Spiritual Anatomy, Hypnotherapy and Metaphysical Healing has given her much insight into how the Mind, Body and Spirit are intertwined in the creation of disease in the body. This insight has led to a new approach to healing the physical body – an approach that has the potential to stop disease at its source!

Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool to unlock subconscious keys to what really motivates our actions in life. Sessions can be helpful for understanding and overcoming many deeply set fears that have led to feelings of anxiety, depression, addiction, self-image issues, weight difficulties and troubles relating to others.
